GOODCITY

Public Places

The City of Columbus has a few good things going for it, one of those being the multitude of open and public spaces. This map shows every public space in Columbus in 2019, which includes cemeteries, parks, arenas, fields, athletic areas, rec centers, etc. One question to pose with a map like this is, how are these public spaces maintained in relation to the neighborhood in which they are located? Are all public spaces created and maintained equally?

Celebrate One

The City of Columbus has a program called Celebrate One in some of the areas of Columbus, as demonstrated in this map. This program intends to combat the very high infant mortality rate in these Columbus neighborhoods. This program shows some initiative on the side of the city in order to help serve some of the underserved populations in the city. You can read more about Celebrate One here.

Unemployment

One of the few things that is a common trend throughout the United States, is the unemployment rate. While there still is data that shows that people of color are more likely to be unemployed, the same disparity is not there. People all over Columbus experience unemployment, alothough people of color experience it at a higher rate than white people. We can further explore this phenomena if you look at one of the maps on the Badcity page, where educational attainment is illustrated.
